Ishan Agarwal Preparation Strategy & Insights

Background

I was born and brought up in a small town in Uttar Pradesh. I always had a keen interest in current affairs and politics, which motivated me to pursue a career in the civil services. I completed my engineering from NIT Srinagar and then started preparing for the UPSC exam.

Study Plan

My study plan was quite rigorous. I used to wake up at 5 am every day and start with a 2-hour study session. I would cover current affairs, static subjects, and practice questions. I also used to give myself mock tests and evaluate my performance. I used to study for around 10-12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Challenges

One of the biggest challenges I faced during my preparation was maintaining a balance between my studies and personal life. I had to sacrifice a lot of my social life and time with my family to focus on my studies. I also faced a lot of self-doubt and anxiety, which made it difficult for me to stay motivated.

Strategies

To overcome these challenges, I used to reward myself after completing a certain milestone. For example, I would treat myself to a movie or a dinner at a nice restaurant after completing a difficult topic. I also used to take breaks and engage in activities that I enjoyed, such as reading or watching movies.

Interview Experience

The interview experience was quite nerve-wracking for me. I was asked a lot of questions on current affairs, history, and geography. I was also asked to speak on a topic of my choice, which was 'India's Foreign Policy'. I was able to answer most of the questions confidently, but I felt that I could have done better.

Success

Securing the 409th rank in the UPSC exam was a dream come true for me. It was a culmination of all my hard work and dedication. I feel proud of myself for achieving this feat and I hope to inspire others to pursue their dreams.
