Manan Agarwal Preparation Strategy & Insights

Background

I come from a humble background and was always fascinated by the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Growing up, I was inspired by the stories of my relatives who were bureaucrats and the impact they had on people's lives. I knew that I wanted to make a difference too.

Study Plan

My journey to the IAS started with a clear plan. I had two years to prepare for the UPSC Civil Services Examination, and I knew that I had to be focused and consistent. I created a study plan that included a mix of theory and practical sessions. I started with the basics of history, geography, and politics, and then moved on to more advanced topics like economics, sociology, and public administration.

Challenges

But, as I started preparing, I realized that it wasn't going to be easy. The UPSC exam is one of the toughest in the country, and I had to face many challenges along the way. I had to deal with self-doubt, procrastination, and burnout. There were times when I felt like giving up, but I didn't.

Strategies

So, what worked for me? Time management was key. I had to prioritize my studies and make the most of my time. I created a schedule that included dedicated time for studying, practicing, and revising. I also made sure to take breaks and engage in physical activities to stay healthy and focused.

  • Focus on the basics: I made sure to understand the basics of each subject before moving on to more advanced topics.
  • Practice, practice, practice: I practiced as many questions as I could, including mock tests and past year papers.
  • Join a coaching institute: I joined a coaching institute that provided me with guidance, support, and resources.
  • Stay motivated: I stayed motivated by setting goals and rewarding myself for achieving them.

Interview Experience

The interview was a nerve-wracking experience, but I was well-prepared. I had practiced answering questions on current events, history, and policy-making. I was confident in my knowledge and was able to articulate my thoughts clearly.

Success

Securing an All-India Rank of 46 was a dream come true. It was a result of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. I learned that success is not just about achieving a goal, but also about the journey you take to get there. I am grateful for the experience and the lessons I learned along the way.
