Preparation Strategy

Background

I still remember the day I decided to take the UPSC Civil Services Examination. It was a turning point in my life, and I was determined to make it happen. I come from a humble background, and my parents always encouraged me to pursue my dreams. I was born and brought up in Sahibabad, Uttar Pradesh, and my schooling was from DAV Public School, Sahibabad NCR.

Study Plan

My study plan was quite rigorous. I would wake up at 5:00 AM every day and start my day with a 2-hour study session. I would cover all the subjects, including General Studies, Essay, and Optional Subject - Sociology. I would also dedicate 2 hours for current affairs, and 1 hour for reading newspapers. I would take a 1-hour break for lunch, and then resume my studies in the evening. I would study for 4-5 hours in the evening, and then take a 2-hour break before dinner. I would wind up my day with a 1-hour review session.

Challenges

The biggest challenge I faced during my preparation was time management. With a full-time job and a family to take care of, it was difficult to balance my studies with other responsibilities. I had to be very disciplined and focused to achieve my goal. Another challenge I faced was the lack of guidance. I was self-studying, and I didn't have a mentor to guide me. I had to rely on online resources and study materials, which sometimes were not enough.

Strategies

To overcome the challenges, I developed a few strategies. First, I created a study schedule and stuck to it. I also joined online forums and groups to connect with other aspirants and get guidance from experienced people. I also made a habit of reading newspapers and current affairs every day. I would also take mock tests and evaluate my performance to identify areas of improvement.

Interview Experience

The interview experience was a rollercoaster ride. I was nervous, but I was also confident. I had prepared well, and I knew my strengths and weaknesses. The panel asked me a mix of questions, including general knowledge, current affairs, and essay. I answered all the questions to the best of my abilities, and I was proud of myself for handling the pressure.

Success

The success was a mix of emotions. I was happy, relieved, and proud all at once. I had worked hard for 4 years, and it was worth it. I was selected as a Deputy Collector in the UP government, and I was excited to start my new journey. I would like to share a few key points that helped me achieve my goal:

  • Stay focused and disciplined: It's easy to get distracted, but it's essential to stay focused and disciplined during the preparation.

  • Create a study schedule: A study schedule helps you stay organized and ensures that you cover all the topics.

  • Join online forums and groups: Connecting with other aspirants and experienced people can help you get guidance and stay motivated.

  • Read newspapers and current affairs: Staying updated with current affairs is crucial for the UPSC examination.

  • Take mock tests and evaluate your performance: Mock tests help you identify areas of improvement and prepare you for the actual examination.

  • Stay positive and confident: It's essential to stay positive and confident during the preparation and the interview experience.
