Preparation Strategy
Background
I was born and raised in Punjab, and my parents always encouraged me to pursue a career in engineering. I scored well in my 12th boards and got into IIT Delhi, where I studied for four years. After completing my engineering degree, I landed a high-paying job in a corporate company. However, I soon realized that this job was not fulfilling my passion for public service. I had always been interested in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and wanted to make a difference in society.
Study Plan
I started preparing for the UPSC exam in 2018, but I didn't take it seriously at first. I would study for a few months and then take a break. However, after my third attempt in 2021, I realized that I needed to change my approach. I started studying consistently for six hours a day, five days a week. I also joined a coaching institute and attended regular classes. I focused on my weak areas, such as general studies and essay writing.
Challenges
The biggest challenge I faced was my own self-doubt. I had failed three times, and I started to wonder if I was cut out for this exam. I also faced financial challenges, as I had to quit my job to focus on my studies. However, I was determined to succeed, and I pushed through these challenges.
Strategies
I used a combination of online and offline resources to prepare for the exam. I studied from various books, including the NCERT and the UPSC syllabus. I also watched video lectures and attended online classes. I made a schedule and stuck to it, making sure to cover all the topics before the exam.
Interview Experience
The interview was a nerve-wracking experience, but I was well-prepared. I had studied about the current events and the topics that were likely to be asked. I also practiced my communication skills and made sure to articulate my thoughts clearly. The interview panel asked me questions about my background, my motivations, and my vision for the country. I answered confidently and sincerely, and I was able to showcase my knowledge and skills.
Success
I was overjoyed when I heard the results of the exam. I had secured the 135th rank, and I had achieved my dream of becoming an IAS officer. I was proud of myself for persevering and staying committed to my goal. I knew that this was just the beginning of my journey, and I was excited to serve the country and make a difference in the lives of people.
**Key Points:
