AIR 3 • UPSC CSE 2024 • Optional: Philosophy
Growing up in Pune, I was always fascinated by the world of governance and public service. My parents, both educators, encouraged me to pursue a career in civil services. I completed my engineering degree from VIT and worked as an engineer for a few years before deciding to take the UPSC exam.
I started preparing for the UPSC exam in 2022, with a clear goal of securing a rank within the top 10. I created a study plan that included a mix of self-study and guided mentorship. I used online platforms for daily current affairs, and I also attended coaching classes to get guidance on the exam pattern and strategy.
Focus on building a strong foundation: I made sure to cover all the topics in the syllabus, with a focus on building a strong foundation in subjects like history, geography, and polity.
Practice is key: I practiced as many questions as I could, using online resources and mock tests to identify my strengths and weaknesses.
Time management is crucial: I made sure to manage my time effectively, allocating sufficient time for each subject and topic.
The biggest challenge I faced was balancing my preparation with my work and personal life. I had to juggle my job as an engineer with my UPSC preparation, which was a significant challenge. Additionally, I had to deal with self-doubt and anxiety, which were common emotions during the preparation phase.
To overcome these challenges, I employed several strategies:
Stay focused and motivated: I reminded myself of my goals and the reasons why I wanted to become a civil servant. I also surrounded myself with positive people who encouraged and supported me.
Break down the syllabus: I broke down the syllabus into smaller chunks, making it easier to manage and study.
Use technology to my advantage: I used online resources and apps to stay organized and focused.
Take breaks and practice self-care: I made sure to take breaks and practice self-care, which helped me to stay energized and motivated.
The interview experience was a turning point for me. I was nervous but prepared. I made sure to answer the questions confidently and concisely, highlighting my strengths and experiences.
Be yourself: I reminded myself to be myself and not try to be someone I'm not.
Showcase your skills and experiences: I made sure to showcase my skills and experiences, highlighting my achievements and contributions.
Stay calm and composed: I took deep breaths and stayed calm and composed, which helped me to think clearly and answer the questions confidently.
Securing AIR 3 in the UPSC exam was a dream come true. It was a result of hard work, dedication, and perseverance. I was proud of myself for achieving my goal, and I knew that it was just the beginning of my journey as a civil servant.
