Preparation Strategy
Background
I come from a family of modest means, and my parents always encouraged me to pursue my dreams. I was born and brought up in Faridabad, Haryana, and did my schooling from DPS Faridabad. I was always fascinated by the world of engineering and decided to pursue a career in it. I secured admission to IIT BHU Varanasi and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering.
Study Plan
My journey to becoming a UPSC topper began when I was in college. I started preparing for the exam by reading books and taking online courses. I also joined a coaching institute to get guidance from experienced teachers. My study plan was quite rigorous, with a focus on covering all the subjects and topics. I used to study for around 8-10 hours a day, 6 days a week.
Challenges
The biggest challenge I faced during my preparation was time management. With a demanding study schedule, it was difficult to balance my personal life and relationships. I also faced setbacks and failures, but I never gave up. I kept pushing myself to work harder and improve my performance.
Strategies
- Focus on weak areas: I identified my weak areas and focused on improving them.
- Practice, practice, practice: I practiced as many questions as I could, both online and offline.
- Stay motivated: I surrounded myself with positive people who motivated me to keep going.
- Take breaks: I made sure to take breaks and relax to avoid burnout.
Interview Experience
The interview experience was nerve-wracking, but I was well-prepared. I had practiced answering common interview questions and was confident in my abilities. The panel asked me a mix of questions, including current affairs, history, and personality-related questions. I answered them to the best of my abilities and was able to showcase my skills and knowledge.
Success
Securing All India Rank 327 in the UPSC CSE 2023 was a dream come true. It was a culmination of all my hard work and dedication. I was overjoyed and relieved at the same time. I knew that I had given it my all and had nothing to regret.
