Background

I come from a humble background in Bihar, and my family has always been supportive of my education. I pursued my engineering degree in semiconductor engineering from a reputable college. After completing my degree, I worked as a semiconductor engineer at Intel for two years. However, I always had a passion for public service and wanted to make a difference in society.

Study Plan

When I decided to take the UPSC CSE, I knew it wouldn't be an easy feat. I had to create a study plan that would help me achieve my goal. I started by making a detailed schedule, allocating specific time slots for each subject. I also created a study group with friends who were also preparing for the exam. We would meet regularly to discuss our progress and share study materials.

Challenges

The biggest challenge I faced during my preparation was balancing my work and studies. As a semiconductor engineer, I had a demanding job that required me to work long hours. However, I was determined to crack the UPSC CSE, so I made sure to allocate time for studies even on weekends. Another challenge I faced was dealing with self-doubt and anxiety. There were times when I felt like giving up, but I reminded myself of my goals and the reasons why I wanted to become a civil servant.

Strategies

I also practiced meditation and yoga to manage my stress levels.

Interview Experience

The interview experience was nerve-wracking, but I was well-prepared. I had practiced answering common interview questions and prepared my thoughts on current events. During the interview, I was asked a range of questions, from my background and interests to my views on current issues. I was able to think on my feet and provide thoughtful responses.

Success

Securing the 99th rank in the UPSC CSE 2023 was a dream come true. It was a result of hard work, determination, and the right strategies. I would advise aspirants to create a study schedule and stick to it, review notes regularly, and practice previous year's question papers. Additionally, joining online forums and study groups can be helpful in staying motivated and learning from others. Remember, success is not a one-time event, but a journey. Keep working towards your goals, and you will achieve them.
