AIR 268 • UPSC CSE 2023 • Optional: Sociology
I've always been fascinated by the complexities of human society and the ways in which social structures shape our lives. My interest in Sociology led me to pursue a degree in the subject, which not only deepened my understanding of social dynamics but also instilled in me a critical thinking approach to problem-solving.
My study plan was meticulously crafted to ensure that I covered all the necessary topics and stayed on track. I created a detailed schedule that allocated specific time slots for each subject, leaving some buffer time for unexpected events. I also made sure to review my notes regularly, summarize key points, and practice past year question papers to get a feel for the exam pattern.
There were several challenges that I faced during my preparation, but the most significant one was time management. With a demanding academic schedule and a part-time job, finding enough time to study was a constant struggle. I had to be extremely disciplined and prioritize my tasks to ensure that I stayed on track.
To overcome the challenges I faced, I employed several strategies. Firstly, I created a study group with like-minded individuals who were also preparing for the UPSC exam. We would meet regularly to discuss our progress, share study materials, and motivate each other. Secondly, I made sure to take regular breaks to avoid burnout and maintain my physical and mental well-being.
The interview experience was both exhilarating and intimidating. I was nervous but determined to make a good impression. I took a few deep breaths, gathered my thoughts, and began to answer the questions to the best of my ability. The panel members were friendly and asked a mix of general knowledge and subject-specific questions. I was able to answer most of them confidently, but there were a few that left me stumped.
Securing rank 268 in the UPSC exam was a tremendous feeling, and it was all the more sweet because of the hard work and dedication that went into achieving it. I learned that with the right mindset, a well-structured study plan, and a bit of luck, anything is possible. I would advise future aspirants to stay focused, work hard, and never give up on their dreams.
